Luminus Financial is pleased to introduce the nominees standing for election to the Board of Directors in 2026. Our Board plays a critical role in guiding the strategic direction, governance, and long-term success of the credit union.
Members will have the opportunity to vote on the following candidates, listed in alphabetical order below, each of whom brings valuable professional experience and leadership perspectives.
Meet the Nominees
Alex Arifuzzaman
My name is Alex Arifuzzaman and I would like to be considered for a position on the Board of Directors at Luminus Financial. First of all, I have been a member at Luminus Financial since 2018 and think it is an excellent Credit Union with outstanding products and services.
My experience and education are well suited for this position. I have an MBA from the Rotman School of Management and an EMBA from the University of St Gallen (Switzerland). As part of my education, we studied Board of Director best practices as well as many financial subjects with industry leaders.
To begin my career, I worked at Canadian Tire and Cadillac Fairview where my responsibilities included forecasting of store and property performance with key financial metrics. This included preparing packages and presenting to their respective Boards and Executive Committees.
I then transitioned into consulting in the early 2000’s doing similar work for dozens of clients including Shoppers Drug Mart, Toyota Canada, Giant Tiger and several international projects as well. I also have been Court certified as expert witness for a number of cases requiring opinions on market analytics and financial performance.
In addition to my consulting, I began teaching Analytics to MBA students at the Schulich School of Business in 2016 which I continue to do to this day. My teaching has since expanded to Toronto Metropolitan University where I currently teach Marketing and Marketing Analytics. Since Covid, I have shifted from majority Consulting to majority teaching. I enjoy both.
It would be my pleasure to be added to the Luminus Financial Board of Directors. The experience and education that I have gained over the years would be a great fit.

He is also an Acting Captain with Toronto Pearson Airport Fire and Emergency Services, where he provides operational leadership in one of Canada’s busiest aviation environments. In this role, he supervises personnel, coordinates emergency response operations, and ensures the safe and effective delivery of fire and emergency services across airport operations.

He also contributes to firefighter training as an associate instructor with the Fire Emergency Services Training Institute and has previously served as a Fire Prevention Officer and Occupational Health and Safety Fire Officer with the Government of Canada.
Jonathan Bowness
I am seeking re-election to the Board of Directors of Luminus Financial. I hope to continue to participate in the leadership of this organisation and help our members achieve their financial goals while seeing Luminus continue to grow stably and expand profitably into the future. I have served on the board for 10 years and currently serve as the Chair of the Audit Committee, as well as the Vice Chair of the Board; I also sit on the HR & Compensation Committee. Ongoing education is a personal priority, and essential to success in this role, as such over my last term I achieved my Accredited Canadian Credit Union Director Designation, and more recently in 2025 earned a Director designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
I have a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Global Business Management from Ryerson University. I work as a Senior Consultant for RICOH Canada specializing in the implementation of their portfolio of cutting-edge content management, automation and artificial intelligence solutions. My work has me at the forefront of digitally transformative technology projects from small to Enterprise organizations, spanning the not-for-profit, government and commercial spaces. I am a continuous learner that thrives on the complexity of solving new problems each day, and relish the satisfaction that comes in finding the perfect solution unique to each problem I am tasked to solve.
