(Oakville, Ontario) Ontario credit unions, staff, guests and suppliers came together to support two fundraising efforts benefiting the CU Succeed Youth Bursary program.
The Ontario Credit Union Foundation introduced the bursary program in 2016 to assist financially deserving post-secondary students who are active in their communities. Last year 42 bursaries totalling $51,000 were awarded.
During the CU Succeed Youth Bursary campaign, credit union staff had the opportunity to do grassroots fundraising. Luminus Financial CEO George De La Rosa commented, “I couldn’t believe how the staff embraced the campaign, from filling my office with balloons then presenting a ransom note to “free” the office, to engaging other staff, members, and board of directors. Their efforts paid off and I am proud to say they raised $3,745 for bursaries for Ontario youth.”
The campaign concept and marketing support was provided by the CUMark agency. Dan Coldwell, OCUF Board Chair commented, “The success of this campaign shows what we can accomplish through collaboration with our credit union partners. I can’t wait to see what we can do together in 2018.” Five credit unions contributed; Alterna, Comtech Fire, Luminus, Your Neighbourhood, and Your Credit Union.
The second event was the 26th Golf Classic which attracted 130 golfers and 6 non-golf “painters” to Lionhead Golf & Country Club in Brampton on June 12th. CUMIS was the title sponsor again this year, supporting the event financially and with the return of CUMIS volunteers who managed registration table. The day featured breakfast, lunch and buffet dinner, along with a happy hour to network with sponsors and peers. The raffle prize table this year featured awesome prizes thanks to the generosity of many of our sponsors and guests. During dinner, two of last years award recipients shared their stories on the impact the bursaries had on their educational pursuits.
These two events combined for a total of $74,900 raised for the CU Succeed Youth Bursary program. On behalf of the award recipients we extend a big thank you to everyone who made this achievement possible.

About ONTARIO CREDIT UNION FOUNDATION
Over the past 37 years the Ontario Credit Union Foundation (OCUF) has supported credit unions and co-operatives with their philanthropic giving in communities across Ontario. The Foundation is like private and local community foundations in that it administers funds created by donors for specific charitable purposes. In addition to the 45 funds OCUF manages, they maintain a general fund used for their main charitable activity, the support of youth education and leadership.
